Portsmouth Guildhall plays host to industry leading Maritime Conferences

Portsmouth Guildhall is quickly establishing itself as the UK’s leading venue for maritime conferencing, with three key events in the industry recently hosted.

In February, The Society of Maritime Industries held their annual conference focussing on the implementation of a national shipbuilding strategy with speakers from the highest echelons of the industry and government at the venue. Hosted in the Guildhall’s decadent and historic Lord Mayor’s Banqueting Room, 120 delegates were welcomed over two days with a reception and dinner in the city aboard the magnificent pride of Queen Victoria’s fleet; HMS Warrior 1860.

In May, the venue welcomed Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and 650 delegates for the launch event of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, a gruelling 40,000 nautical mile race which will set sail from London in September. In an exciting meeting of skippers and crews of 44 nationalities from across the globe, Portsmouth Guildhall provided the perfect setting for a presentation, lunch and backdrop for photographs.

Later that month, Portsmouth Guildhall was delighted to host Cruise Lines International Association’s largest ever conference with 750 delegates and special guest speaker, Sir Richard Branson. Combining presentations with elaborate stage performances, delegates also enjoyed a luxury packed lunch and acoustic entertainment on the steps of the Guildhall while soaking up the glorious sunshine. CLIA’s Trade Membership & Event Manager was delighted with the outcome of their event quoting it was their “best conference yet” with high praise for the catering and professional support of the Guildhall team.
