Actisense protects itself and clients against Cyber Attack with new government scheme

Poole-based Actisense, the multi-award winning marine electronics specialists, has been independently assessed and certified for its cybersecurity through a Government-backed scheme run by the National Cyber Security Centre. They have received the highest level of Certification demonstrating they have met stringent requirements relating to five technical control themes. This is good news for them and for their customers.

Phil Whitehurst, Actisense CEO, said: “Actisense is a global brand. We operate internationally and have distributors and clients in countries from Iceland to New Zealand. Much of our communication and trade is conducted online and is therefore vulnerable to attack. It’s absolutely essential, therefore, that we take every possible step to protect ourselves and our clients. Cyber Essentials really helps ensure we are doing that.”

Cyber Essentials is a simple programme that gives protection against a wide variety of the most common cyber attacks such as hacking – breaking into and taking over someone else’s internet devices, a common problem with emails and social media; phishing – tricking users into installing or executing a malicious threat; and password guessing: all things which can cause havoc to personal and business computer systems.

Since 2014, any company wishing to bid for central government contracts involving the handling of sensitive and personal information or the provision of certain technical products and services, requires Cyber Essentials Certification. In addition, the introduction of stringent new GDPR requirements earlier this year, means every company irrespective of size or industry-sector needs to be far more aware of how they use and protect their data. Cyber Essentials is an extremely good starting point for this.

Phil continues: “With all the recent high profile examples of possible cyber attacks, including the presidential elections in the States, people are far more aware of the potential risks to their communication and processing systems. Being awarded Cyber Essentials Certification is very reassuring for our clients and associates, showing that we take our internet and data security extremely seriously.”
